2018 FIFA World Cup official Referees

The World Cup 2018 referees are announced. Below you’ll find a list with all the referees. The role of the referees is not clear yet, because some may only be a video referee. Got permission via new blog Law 5 – The referee to publish the list here as well. The source of this big news for referees is Árbitro Internacional. Referee plays an important part in every football match and the role of referees becomes even more important when the tournament is FIFA World Cup.

FIFA World Cup Referees 2018

FIFA has announced the list of 36 match officials heading to Russia for 2018 World Cup which takes place in June-July 2018. This world might become the first in history to use video refereeing and FIFA are pushing hard to make VAR available for world cup and all preparations are done and subject to approval from IFAB in March 2018.
It is important for FIFA to select the best of the available officials for the 2018 FIFA World Cup as one wrong decision of the referee could change the outcome of a match. The referees, assistant referees and fourth officials (collectively known as match officials) shall be appointed by the FIFA Referees Committee for each match and the committee’s decision regarding the appointment of Match Official will be final and not subject to appeal. The FIFA Referees Committee will select the Referees from the FIFA International Refereeing List in force.
FIFA has announced a list of official referees from all six football confederations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament.  FIFA has announced the 2018 FIFA World Cup 36-man referees and assistant referees list which include 2 referees from pro panel . FIFA are also pushing for video assistant referees (VARs) to be part of 2018 World Cup but that will be decided in March 2018 which needs approval from the The International Football Association Board (The IFAB). Referees in the world cup final list comes from all parts of the world, UEFA has 10 names, while CONMEBOL and CONCACAF has 6 officials each. Below is the full list of match officials announced so far.
The blog mentions that the role of referees or video referees is not clear yet. Referees will do a FIFA fitness test and if they pass, they’ll go to Russia as one of the World Cup 2018 referees. That’s what the international referee blog says. According to them no new referees will join these 36 names as center referee if everyone passes the tests. But if  someone fails, a replacement might be added. There might also be new names to act as video referee only.
Fifa does not comment on the list and some football associations say it’s still a shortlist.
Every match will have 1 main referee, 2 assistants and possibly 1 video assistant referee (VAR). FIFA will announce the names of referees from this 36 man list who will be acting as video assistant referees (VAR).
England are set to have no referee representation at next year’s World Cup for the first time in post-war history. Mark Clattenburg, who retired from the Premier League list this summer, was on the pre-selected group drawn up by FIFA two years ago. But his money-spinning defection to Saudi Arabia looks to have ended any hope of the Euro 2016 Final referee officiating in Russia. Fellow candidates Martin Atkinson and Andre Marriner, both 46, are also out of the running as they retire from FIFA’s international panel in December due to age constraints. Michael Oliver – the youngest referee to take charge of a Premier League game – is also likely to miss out.
